Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 September 2026

Mäx collects no personal data. There is no account to create, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDK that reports anything about you. This policy exists because the App Store requires every app to publish one, not because there is much to disclose.

What the app stores

Everything the app remembers is written to storage on your own device:

None of it is sent anywhere, and it is not backed up to us: there is no account and nothing to back it up to. Everything above stays on your device.

The Tutor screen

The Tutor is the one part of the app that uses the internet. When you send it a question, that question — together with the language you are learning, the language you read explanations in, and your level — is sent to our server, which passes it to DeepSeek, an AI provider, to compose the answer. Nothing else goes with it: not your name, not your progress, not the words you have saved, and no identifier that ties the question to you.

We keep no record of the conversation. The transcript you see on the Tutor screen is stored on your device only, and clearing it or deleting the app removes it. DeepSeek processes the request under their own terms.

If you never open the Tutor, the app makes no network request at all — every other screen works offline.

Microphone and speech recognition

The speaking drill is the only feature that uses the microphone, and only while you are actively using it. When you tap the microphone button, iOS listens and converts what you said to text so the app can compare it with the sentence on screen.

Where iOS supports on-device recognition for your language, that conversion happens entirely on your phone. For some languages iOS instead sends the audio to Apple’s own speech recognition service; that transfer is made by iOS, is governed by Apple’s privacy policy, and is the same mechanism used by dictation on the system keyboard.

In neither case does Mäx record, store or transmit audio. The recognised text is compared, scored and discarded. If you decline the microphone permission, the speaking drill explains that and the rest of the app carries on working.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, so there is no children’s data to handle differently.

Deleting your data

Two ways, both immediate and complete:

There is no copy anywhere else, so there is nothing to request from us and nothing to revoke.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published here and the date at the top updated. A change that materially affects what is collected would ship alongside an app update describing it.
